William Jones was a 16th Century London Haberdasher born in Newland, Gloucestershire. In 1613 Jones gifted the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers £6,000 and bequeathed a further £3,000 to be expended on charitable works and the founding of a school in Monmouth. Monmouth School was subsequently founded in 1614 and after Jones' death in 1615 has been governed by the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers.
